The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is partnering with national, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officials, as well as community coalition groups to hold a third National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. This one-day event will make it convenient for the public to rid their homes of potentially dangerous prescription drugs.

On Saturday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time, Americans will be able to drop off their expired, unused, and unwanted pills at sites across the country free of charge, no questions asked. By doing so, they will be helping prevent drug abuse and theft.

Media may be kept out of courtroom in sex crime trial of ex-teacher

LEBANON — The prosecution in the sex crime case against a former Mason High School physical education teacher is asking the judge to restrict

TV cameras and photographers from inside the courtroom during the trial.

Stacy Schuler, 33, is charged with 16 felony counts of sexual battery and three misdemeanor counts of offenses involving underage persons for allegedly buying or providing beer and having sex with five Mason students, most of whom were football players. H

Holbrook plans to run again for Illinois House; won’t seek Costello’s seat

State Rep. Tom Holbrook said Thursday he intends to run again for another term in the Illinois legislature.

Holbrook, D-Belleville, had been rumored to be a candidate for Congress following the announcement that incumbent U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Belleville, would not seek re-election. But Holbrook said he does not intend to run for the 12th Congressional District seat.

Much speculation has swirled about Holbrook’s future, including that he might be in line for a top job in state government in Springfield. But Holbrook told a reporter Thursday morning he will run again for the Illinois House.

A good day’s work

After finishing reading this story I felt a sudden urge to pick up the phone and call the wife and tell her I loved her. Because I so rarely do this, when I do, she will automatically assume that something is wrong—that I am leaving her for Naomi and moving to Fiji or I have just been diagnosed with an untreatable disease—but I am going to do it anyway because it’s that good of a story and it’s the kind that I forget about and it’s the kind that I wish I knew more of.

In fact, if this story doesn’t brighten your day even ever so slightly and possibly make you  smile, then you are dead inside and there is nothing we can do for you. Sorry.
