An Alexandria man, who has spent the last six years in prison for killing his 3-month old daughter, could be released from prison today.
Attorneys for the Innocence Project in Minnesota expect Mike Hansen will be released in Douglas County. Hansen was found guilty of the crime after the medical examiner concluded the girl died of a skull fracture. But attorneys for the Innocence Project say an independent review concluded that the fracture happened six days before the girl died and could not have lead to her death.
The University of Minnesota Law School was hit hard during the latest round of budget debates. The school now receives less than 10 percent of its overall budget from state dollars.
Facing unreliable state money, the law school is considering going to a complete private fundraising plan. In a story in today’s Star Tribune, Dean David Wippman says the new financial model could start in a year. He said the school won’t change how it operates, but Minnesota residents will see their tuition increase by about 10 percent under the new plan. Wip
A young man was critically injured Tuesday afternoon when someone opened fire on a house on North Paul Laurence Dunbar Street.
Dayton Police Sgt. Larry Tolpin said the victim, who is either 18 or 19 years old, was standing on the porch of 537 N. Paul Laurence Dunbar with one other individual at about 3:10 p.m. when several shots were fired, hitting him in the arm and the face.
He was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Tolpin said the initial investigation by homicide detectives indicates that numerous shots were fired from an automatic weapon. Several bullets went through the house and some possibly entered a neighboring vacant home. Full Article…
